Dear South Haven Public School Families,

As many of you know, I recently announced my retirement as your superintendent. For the last 34 years, public education has been my passion. I’ve worked as a paraprofessional, special education teacher, principal, and spent the last 16 years as a school superintendent. These are years that I cherish.  I have been blessed to work with wonderful people throughout my career - you and your children included.

With that being said, most of us are aware that any job comes with obstacles and stress. This job is no exception. In the spirit of full disclosure, which I have prided myself on throughout my career,  I am not immune to the negative impacts of stress.  For this reason, I have made the decision to step away, prioritizing my health and my family.

One factor that made this decision easier is the trust and admiration I have for the professionals  in whose care I leave the district. Yesterday, the Board of Education met to name an interim superintendent, Ms. Carey Frost.  Ms. Frost is more than capable and over my time, has proven herself a high quality administrator.  Carey will be taking over effective September 24th and I will slide into a consulting role as I transition into my retirement at the end of the calendar year.

It has been my privilege to work alongside this staff in the best interest of our community's most vital resource, our children.

Sincerely,

Kevin Schooley
